OLIGARKH is a conceptual Petersburg project combining electronic music in the style of EDM in the spirit of Major Lazer and Hudson Mohawke with truly Russian music of the widest range - musicians use samples and quotes from Orthodox prayers, folk songs, works of Tchaikovsky and even old Russian rap. This is the creative secret of the project: when listening to music of OLIGARKH, the “cultural code” of a Russian is subjected to a total autopsy and instant rethinking. Unlike most colleagues in the electronic scene, OLIGARKH is primarily a team of musicians, honed under a live stage performance, capable not only of studio tricks. On stage, their clever postmodern sound collage is framed by energetic drums and epileptic video art. As a result of this synthesis, a kind of folk-rave of extraordinary expression is obtained, comparable in effect only to the rite of exorcism. The strange trio has already earned the status of “ambassadors of Russian culture” abroad. Behind the band are European tours, a tour of China, performances at major Western festivals, complimentary reviews in the Dazed & Confused music publication and on-air on American radio KEXP.
